The Grand Imam, Dr Ahmad al-Tayyeb Shaykh Al-Azhar, hosted the King of Belgium, Louis Philippe, at his office in Cairo on Saturday, 1 November 2025. King Louis was touring Egypt on an official visit, to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
The Grand Imam highlighted the Document on Human Fraternity, which he co-signed with the late Pope Francis, explaining that the document addresses the major challenges facing humanity. He stated that the Document on Human Fraternity serves as a universal guide to directing people towards values of mercy and goodness and rescuing humanity from the crises and difficulties that are present today.
From his part, the King of Belgium expressed deep appreciation for the Grand Imam’s role and for his efforts to promote global peace, as well as for the warm welcome and gracious hospitality he received. The King conveyed his delight at visiting the historic and distinguished institution of Al-Azhar, praising the spirit of friendship, mutual respect and deep dialogue that characterised their meeting. The King of Belgium emphasised the importance of continued cooperation to advance peace, foster understanding and coexistence among people, enhance dialogue among followers of religions and uphold human dignity as a fundamental basis for building a fairer and more cooperative world.
