On behalf of everyone at Jamia Al-Karam and Al-Azhar Alumni UK, Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada and Bakhtyar H. Pirzada al-Azhari extend their condolences on the passing of Shaykh Prof. Dr. Ahmad Umar Hashim. They express deep sadness and grief as the scholarly world of Islam, particularly Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, mourns the loss of one of its most notable and erudite scholars of modern times.
Shaykh Umar Hashim was a member of the Supreme Council of Senior Scholars of Al-Azhar, former President of Al-Azhar University, and a scholar, orator and writer of immense stature. He leaves behind a legacy of intellectual literature and scholarly writings, speeches and lectures, and thousands of students around the world.
Shaykh Umar Hashim developed a unique relationship with Shaykh Pirzada and Jamia Al-Karam. He was the first senior scholar of Al-Azhar to visit Jamia Al-Karam in 2001 as the sitting President of the university, speaking at the annual Urs conference. He awarded Shaykh Pirzada Al-Azhar’s Shield of Excellence Award and, as an illustrious commentator of hadith, granted Shaykh Pirzada an ijazah (licence of transmission) of the Sahih of Imam al-Bukhari, well before Shaykh Pirzada contemplated writing its commentary.
Bakhtyar H. Pirzada al-Azhari studied with Shaykh Umar Hashim at the Faculty of Islamic Jurisprudence in Al-Azhar during his tenure as President of the university. Since then, meetings have continued during conferences in Cairo and greetings between him and Shaykh Pirzada were exchanged through travelling students.
His funeral prayer was held at the historic Al-Azhar Mosque and was attended by the Grand Imam, Dr Ahmad al-Tayyeb Shaykh al-Azhar, and thousands of devotees. May Allah grant him a high station in Paradise. Ameen.
وفاة الشيخ الأستاذ الدكتور أحمد عمر هاشم
إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ
نيابةً عن فرع المنظمة العالمية لخريجي الأزهر بالمملكة المتحدة، يتقدّم الأستاذ بختيار بيرزاده الأزهري بخالص التعازي في وفاة الشيخ الأستاذ الدكتور أحمد عمر هاشم، معبّرا عن حزنٍ عميقٍ ودعاء خالص، إذ ينعى العالم الإسلامي عامةً، والأزهر الشريف خاصةً، أحد أبرز علمائه الكبار في هذا العصر.
كان الشيخ أحمد عمر هاشم عضوًا في هيئة كبار العلماء بالأزهر الشريف، ورئيسًا سابقًا لجامعة الأزهر، وعالِمًا وخطيبًا وكاتبًا ذا مكانة علمية رفيعة. وقد خلّف وراءه إرثًا زاخرًا من المؤلفات العلمية والمحاضرات والخطب، إضافة إلى آلاف الطلاب في مختلف أنحاء العالم.
وقد جمعته علاقة خاصة ومتميزة مع فضيلة الشيخ محمد إمداد حسين بيرزاده (راعي الفرع) وجامعة الكرم ببريطانيا؛ إذ كان أولَ عالمٍ كبيرٍ من علماء الأزهر يزور الجامعة عام 2001 أثناء تولّيه رئاسة جامعة الأزهر، حيث ألقى كلمة في المؤتمر السنوي للجامعة، وقلّد الشيخ بيرزاده الدرع الممتاز من الأزهر الشريف، ومنحه إجازة في رواية صحيح الإمام البخاري، تقديرًا لمكانته وذلك قبل أن يبدأ الشيخ بيرزاده في تأليف شرحه على الصحيح.
كما تتلمذ بختيار بيرزاده الأزهري على يديه في كلية الشريعة الإسلامية بالأزهر. ومنذ ذلك الحين، استمرت اللقاءات بينهما في المؤتمرات بالقاهرة، وتواصلت المودة والتحية عبر طلاب العلم المسافرين بين البلدين.
أُقيمت صلاة الجنازة عليه في الجامع الأزهر الشريف بحضور الإمام الأكبر الدكتور أحمد الطيب شيخ الأزهر الشريف، وجموع غفيرة من المحبين والطلاب والعلماء.
نسأل الله تعالى أن يرفع درجته في عليين، وأن يسكنه فسيح جناته. آمين.
