On 17 June 2025, Al-Azhar Alumni UK President, Bakhtyar Pirzada al-Azhari, attended the UK National Srebrenica Memorial at St. Paul’s Cathedral, marking 30 years since the genocide of over 8,000 Muslims in Srebrenica. The ceremony was attended by high-profile figures including the Grand Mufti of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Reis Husein Kavazović; the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan; Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner; Baroness Saeeda Warsi; MP Tahir Ali; and Dr Waqar Azmi OBE, among survivors, diplomats and parliamentarians.
The event commemorated the victims and emphasised the importance of remembrance and education to prevent future hatred. The Al-Azhar Alumni UK President called for reflection, solidarity and action against rising Islamophobia. He later joined a memorial reception at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), hosted by Minister of State, MP Stephen Doughty.
In his statement, Bakhtyar Pirzada al-Azhari said: “Thirty years have passed since the genocide in Srebrenica, where thousands of innocent Muslims were killed, tortured and raped for their faith. That atrocity cannot be forgotten, nor can the pain and trauma endured by survivors and their families. Memory of that dark hour in European history calls for a moment of profound reflection and sorrow. Today’s youth, particularly young Muslims, must not let these memories fade. The Srebrenica genocide was rooted in religious hatred, and today Islamophobia and anti-minority violence are on the rise. We must act early to educate hearts and minds, to prevent hatred from taking root. We remember the martyrs, we honour the survivors, and we pray for justice wherever injustice casts its shadow.”

في يوم الثلاثاء 17 يونيو 2025، شارك رئيس فرع المنظمة العالمية لخريجي الأزهر ببريطانيا، الأستاذ بختيار بيرزاده الأزهري، في إحياء اليوم الوطني البريطاني لإحياء ذكرى مجزرة سربرنيتسا، والتي أُقيمت في كاتدرائية القديس بولس في وسط لندن، بمناسبة مرور ثلاثين عاماً على هذه الجريمة البشعة التي راح ضحيتها أكثر من 8,000 رجل وفتى مسلم في يوليو 1995؛ وهي أسوأ جريمة وقعت على الأراضي الأوروبية منذ الحرب العالمية الثانية.
حضر هذه المراسم عدد من الشخصيات البارزة، من بينهم المفتي العام للبوسنة والهرسك الشيخ حسين كفازوفيتش، وعمدة لندن صادق خان، ونائبة رئيس الوزراء أنجيلا راينر، بالإضافة إلى عدد من الناجين من المجزرة، وزعماء المجتمعات، والدبلوماسيين، وأعضاء البرلمان.
عقب المراسم، حضر رئيس الفرع أيضاً حفل استقبال تأبيني في وزارة الخارجية البريطانية، استضافه وزير الدولة النائب ستيفن داوتي. وفي تصريحه، قال بختيار بيرزاده الأزهري:
لقد مرّت ثلاثون سنة على مجزرة سربرنيتسا، التي قُتل فيها آلاف المسلمين الأبرياء، وتعرضوا للتعذيب والاغتصاب بسبب دينهم. هذه الجريمة لا يمكن نسيانها، كما لا يمكن التغاضي عن الألم والمعاناة التي عاشها الناجون وأسر الضحايا. إن ذكرى تلك اللحظة المظلمة في تاريخ أوروبا تدعونا إلى التأمل العميق والحزن الصادق. يجب على شباب اليوم، وخاصة المسلمين، أن لا يسمحوا لتلك الذكريات بأن تُمحى. فمجزرة سربرنيتسا كانت مدفوعة بالكراهية الدينية، واليوم نشهد تصاعدًا في ظاهرة الإسلاموفوبيا والعنف ضد الأقليات. علينا أن نتحرك مبكرًا لنربي القلوب والعقول، ونمنع انتشار الكراهية. نُكرم الشهداء، ونُعزز صمود الناجين، وندعو لتحقيق العدالة حيثما وُجد الظلم.
