Leader and Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, led a delegation of Christian leaders from Egypt to visit the Grand Imam, Dr Ahmad al-Tayyeb Shaykh al-Azhar, in Cairo to extend well-wishes and congratulations on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr following the month of Ramadan.

In his statement, Pope Tawadros said:

We feel happy every time we meet, whether at Al-Azhar or in the Orthodox Church. These meetings renew the bonds of love between Muslims and Christians in Egypt, and I hope love will last forever, and that good relations, harmony, and progress continue for our people and our beloved Egypt.”

On his part, His Excellency the Shaykh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif welcomed Pope Tawadros II and the accompanying high-level delegation, saying:
“Welcome to Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. We thank you for your kind sentiments, and we appreciate this visit that reflects the relationship of friendship and brotherhood that unites us Egyptians—Muslims and Christians—and confirms the depth of our ties, holding us together as one national fabric.”
