Gateway to Divine Mercy, a project of Jamia Al-Karam UK, hosts internationally renowned Islamic scholars to address pertinent contemporary issues in light of the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (PBUH).
The event attracts thousands of British Muslims annually to be in the audience of esteemed Islamic personalities and to benefit from the diverse range of scholars and topics relating to the role of Islam in modern society. The theme of this year’s conference is focused on unveiling the character of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and is aptly titled ‘Seeking Our Beloved (PBUH)’.
“Seeking Our Beloved was chosen as a means to identify and implement the characteristics of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in daily aspects of our lives and using his honourable characteristics to challenge the general stereotypes of Islam and Muslims around the world. It was the Prophet Muhammad’s sterling personality that led him to be revered 1400 years after his passing away by Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Gateway to Divine Mercy 2013 aspires to depict the essence of the Prophet (PBUH) so that we as a British community can benefit and strive towards a peaceful, cohesive society,” said Bakhtyar Pirzada, the Vice-Principal of Jamia Al-Karam.
Patrons of this year’s conference will benefit from the deep insights of distinguished scholars and Sufi leaders from various traditions including Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi (Syria), Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani (USA), Shaykh Yusuf Abu Sneineh (Imam of al-Masjid al-Aqsa, Palestine), Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad (UK), Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada (UK), Shaykh Faisal Abdur-Razak (Canada), Shaykh Muhammad al-Ninowy (USA), Shaykh Ahmed Tijani Ben Omar (Ghana) and Shaykh Habib Ali al-Jifri (Yemen).
Bakhtyar Pirzada further said, “Gateway to Divine Mercy was founded on the principle of the first Islamic revelation, which is Iqra’, this loosely translates to ‘read’, and Jamia Al-Karam is dedicated to nourishing the minds of Muslims from all walks of life. There is a great need in our society to evaluate and establish an Islamic perspective on important issues faced by British Muslims and Gateway to Divine Mercy provides a common platform to discuss and encourage the implementation of Islamic teachings. The character of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the correct interpretation of these teachings and to fathom this fundamental premise is the need of the hour.”
