Shaykh Dr. Muhammad al-Duwaini, the General Secretary of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, visited the headquarters of the British Embassy in Cairo, where he offered condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. He was received by Mr. Gareth Bailey OBE, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, along with senior staff of the British Embassy.
Shaykh al-Duwaini conveyed the sincere condolences of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Shaykh Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyeb, to the staff of the British Embassy, as well as his heartfelt sympathies to the royal family and the people of the United Kingdom. He emphasized the deep relationship between Al-Azhar and the United Kingdom, fostered through intellectual exchange and dialogue at the academic level among professors, researchers, and students.
Shaykh al-Duwaini also extended the Grand Imam’s sincere wishes to King Charles III, praying for his health, well-being, and success in leading the United Kingdom towards continued development and growth. He reaffirmed Al-Azhar’s commitment to strengthening understanding and cooperation with the United Kingdom and expanding the scope of intellectual exchange.
The United Kingdom Branch of the World Organisation for Al-Azhar Graduates (WOAG), known as Al-Azhar Alumni UK, is based in Retford, Nottinghamshire. The organisation is internationally chaired by Shaykh Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, and nationally led by its President, Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada.
Here in the UK, the Vice-President of Al-Azhar Alumni UK, Bakhtyar Pirzada al-Azhari, joined the neighbours in Eaton village in signing the Book of Condolence placed at the All Saints’ Church of Eaton and Gamston on the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II, which now also marks the accession to the throne of HM King Charles III.)
