Centred in Egypt and while addressing its immediate community, it has always welcomed students from across the world, and so its impact and influence is global in reach. Our heartfelt prayers go out to the people of Egypt who have led the way in respect and preservation of the historic institution of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and our sincere congratulations – as humble students – are forwarded to our teacher and leader, the Grand Imam, Dr Ahmad al-Tayyeb Shaykh al-Azhar, and his team of leaders, deputies, and assistants on this incredible achievement.”
He further stated:
“What this highlights is the practical relevance of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in today’s advanced world, with various parameters of structures, educational models, and quality assurance methods in effect. Al-Azhar remains a beacon of Islamic learning since its inception over a thousand years ago, and it supremely stands as a bastion of relevant teaching with its position noted and accepted by today’s world. It is a blessed institution. Credit on this and other recent achievements no doubt goes to the Grand Imam, Dr Ahmad al-Tayyeb Shaykh al-Azhar, for his wise leadership and vision, his depth of understanding of tradition and contemporary society, norms and customs, his deep-rooted love for Al-Azhar and dedication to preserve and safeguard it, and his success in strengthening it in a rapidly changing world. We pray for his long and healthy life. May Allah Almighty reward him and allow him to witness the fruits of his efforts in this world and the next, and may we be granted the ability to follow in the wise footsteps of our elders.”
