Under the auspice of the Grand Imam, Dr Ahmad al-Tayyeb Shaykh al-Azhar, the World Organisation for Al-Azhar Graduates (WOAG) has appointed Shaykh Dr ‘Abbas Shoman as its new chairman, marking a new chapter in its mission to promote the principles of moderate Islam.
Dr Shoman’s leadership team includes key figures such as Dr Salamah Da’ud, President of Al-Azhar University, and Mr Wa’il Mahmud Bakhit, both serving as vice chairs, alongside Dr ‘Abd al-Dayim Nusayr as Secretary-General. The board also includes scholars and leaders from Al-Azhar University and the Islamic Research Academy.
Al-Azhar Alumni UK, which is the UK branch of the World Organisation, based in Retford, Nottinghamshire, extended its congratulations and support to Dr Shoman and his team, expressing confidence in their commitment to fostering a positive image of Islam in the West based on Al-Azhar’s values of moderation.
The Organisation also paid tribute to the outgoing board, led by Dr Muhammad al-Mahrasawi and Mr Osama Yasin, for their 15 years of dedicated service. Their efforts focused on building connections between Al-Azhar alumni worldwide, promoting moderate Islamic teachings, and combating extremism.
