The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Dr Ahmad Muhammad al-Tayyeb Shaykh al-Azhar
The oldest uninterrupted centre of learning and leadership, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, has guided the world for over a millennium and has withstood the forces of ravaging waves, over the course of centuries, that swept away structures and mighty empires as if they were mere straws in the eye of the storm. Allah Almighty granted this centre of Qur’anic knowledge devout and selfless scholars who recognised the true duty of scholarship over the ages.
The rate of change in the world today is as it has never been. The challenges are immense and ever-growing. Many worlds have been turned upside down within a few decades. The blessings of Allah Almighty on Al-Azhar Al-Sharif have continued, noticeably in the form of its apt, resourceful and wisely discerning leader, who graced the seat of its highest authority with dignity and resolve, at the right time in history.
We congratulate Dr Ahmad al-Tayyeb Shaykh al-Azhar on marking eleven years as the Grand Imam, taking office on this day in 2010 (19th March). We share in this honour. We thank him for his sacrifices, efforts and services, and we pray for his long life and wellbeing.
