Delegation of 39 top performing students of Pakistan are introduced to Al-Azhar University and the WAAG project during their visit to the United Kingdom.
On Tuesday 26 June 2012, a delegation comprising of thirty-nine top merit students from Pakistan formally visited the institution of Jamia Al-Karam where they were hosted by the United Kingdom Branch of the World Association for Al-Azhar Graduates (WAAG UK) in a special programme honouring their achievement.
The thirty-nine students are those who gained top positions in the national examinations of secondary Matriculation, FA/FSc and the bachelor BA/BSc levels and come from various provinces of Pakistan including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. In an initiative launched last year by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, these merit students are on a journey touring the top universities of the world including Oxford, Cambridge and Heidelberg as well as visiting numerous countries including England, Germany and Turkey.
During their visit to the institution of Jamia Al-Karam to observe a successful model of religious and secular sciences in the Western world, the delegation were hosted by WAAG UK where they were introduced to the history and heritage of Al-Azhar University in the Islamic world and its influential significance for the contemporary world. They also received a presentation about the project of the World Association for Al-Azhar Graduates and were given gifts including information leaflets as well as the Welcome Note of the Grand Imam, Dr Ahmad al-Tayyeb Shaykh al-Azhar.

(Vice Chancellor of Government College University, Lahore, Pakistan)
4. Mr Shahid Iqbal
(Delegate of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif)
Bakhtyar H Pirzada al-Azhari (Vice President of WAAG UK) delivered the initial presentation which was followed by representatives from amongst the students offering their remarks of gratitude. Shaykh Muhammad Amin al-Hasanat Shah al-Qurashi, Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada and Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman also delivered their speeches on this occasion.
Following the programme and dinner, a light tea session was organised in which members of the Al-Ni’mah Student Nasheed Group performed numerous nasheeds before which the delegation departed for London and onwards on their very informative tour. Along with other gifts, the students received copies of Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada’s book ‘Reflections; a quest for answers to today’s questions’.
