Project to produce certified Qur’an in Braille is launched under the supervision of senior scholars of Al-Azhar.
Under the supervision of the Grand Imam, Dr Ahmad al-Tayyeb Shaykh al-Azhar, a first kind initiative has been launched to produce a certified copy of the holy Qur’an in Braille for the blind with the project looking further at making the holy book accessible to the blind and visually impaired as well as those with hearing and speech loss.
To move this process forward and provide credible research on the subject, the Grand Imam has formulated a committee of leading scholars of Al-Azhar and members of the Islamic Research Academy including the Grand Mufti of Egypt Shaykh Dr Ali Jumu’ah, Dr al-Ahmadi Abu ’l-Nur and Dr ‘Abd al-Fattah al-Shaykh.
The committee has begun its work with specialist support from the charitable foundation Al-Nur wa’l-Amal (Light & Hope) as well as the scholars from the Faculty of Theology specialising in the meanings of the Qur’an using Sign Language.
